“Those are the builders who bend over backwards to please the customers…”
-Greg Gee, Ontario New Home Warranty Program

As seen in The Ottawa Citizen ‘s new home section published on Feb 21 2004, in the article titled “slow service, annoyed buyers”.

“President and CEO Greg Gee says builders know they have to fix problems fasters, but buyers also need to do their homework before selecting a builder. And the warranty program’s new Find a Builder button on its website is a good starting point.”

On the warranty program’s website www.newhome.on.ca , buyers can click on Find a Builder, plug in a builder’s name and up will pop that builder’s 10-year warranty record.

Buyers can examine the number of homes completed in a year, the number of chargeable conciliations (warranty disputes that are found in favour of the homeowner), the number of homes where the builder was unwilling or unable to fix the problem, and the dollar paid out by the warranty program to fix those problems. Information is updated quarterly.

Buyers can compare builder’s record and analyse the information. Most of all, they should ask builders about their numbers, says Mr. Gee “That’s an entirely legitimate conversation that not enough consumers are having and they should be because all the information’s there.”
